Arachova & Delphi

Explore your travel guide to Arachova and Delphi, Greece, two amazing destinations close to Athens. Arachova in winter is just like Mykonos in summer! It is a very cosmopolitan destination, mainly due to the ski center. The village starts getting crowded at the beginning of November and until the end of May, especially during the weekends. A breath away from Arachova, Delphi is both an archaeological site and a modern town in Greece on the south-western foothills of Mount Parnassus in the valley of Phocis.

Your Arachova & Delphi travel guide

Arachova has excellent tourism infrastructure, with numerous luxurious hotels, traditional guesthouses and many stores. The central road of the village is packed with bars, restaurants, cafés and stores with folk art. Fine dairy products and gourmet delicacies can also be found in selected stores. In the cold winter days, there is nothing better than enjoying a cup of coffee by the hotel’s fireplace, strolling around the picturesque alleyways and having lunch at one of the excellent taverns. After sunset, we recommend you hit the famous bars and clubs of the village and enjoy the lifestyle of Arachova!

The site of Delphi was believed to be determined by Zeus when he sought to find the center of his «Grandmother Earth» (Gaia). To do this, he sent two eagles flying from the eastern and western extremities. The path of the eagles crossed over Delphi where the omphalos, or navel of Gaia was found. After god Apollo slew Python, «the dragon» who lived there and guarded the area, the god took over the local shrine. There, the Oracle of Delphi, Pythia, was hosted. It was the most prestigious and authoritative oracle among the Greeks and had highly credited prophecies inspired by Apollo.

Arachova and Delphi are around a 3-hour drive from Athens.
