Zante is a verdant island embraced by fertile valleys. The diversity of its landscape has resulted in different types of beaches. On the Southeastern part you will find sandy beaches in secluded coves where the tranquil waters are deep blue and on the western part you will find rugged cliffs and a mesmerizing underwater world.
The Venetians, who ruled Zakynthos from 1484 to 1797, called the island “Fiore di Levante” (flower of the East) as there are over 7,000 species of flowers on the island.
Their architectural influence has left their mark despite the damage sustained due to seismic activity in the area. Stroll around the Solomos Square, which is dedicated to the Greek poet Dionysios Solomos that wrote the Greek National Anthem, to admire the traditional architecture. Also visit the Post- Byzantine Museum of Zakynthos and the Public Library.
The island is famous for its vibrant nightlife, which makes it a frequent destination of the youth.
Access
Zante is connected by boat to Killini. It is also connected by air to Athens and Thessaloniki and by bus to Athens.

The National Marine Park of the island aims to protect rare species of marine life that live in the wider area (in Zante, as well as in the rest of the Ionian Sea). The protected species are mainly the sea turtles “Caretta Caretta” and the Mediterranean Monk Seals “Monachus Monachus”.
An exotic, secluded beach on the northwest of the island is one of the most photographed places in Greece. An old, rusty boat is laying half buried in the white sand since 1982… This beach is only accessible by boat.
