Tour Plan

Day 1: Athens - Corfu

Arrival to Corfu, you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel.

Day 2: Corfu (Corfu Town - Liston Piazza - Esplanade Square)

After breakfast, go on a shopping spree and hunt for the best deals in the numerous elegant boutiques, leather shops and jewellers found around Old Corfu Town, then this is the best tour option. This shopping tour gives you the chance to visit Corfu Town with enough time at your own leisure, whether you wish to go shopping, walk around, visit the sights and museums, or simply enjoy a coffee or a drink under the cool shade of the ageless trees in the elegant Liston Piazza. The tour Escort will lead you to the famous Esplanade Square, once used by Napoleon’s troops as drilling grounds. This is the most central point, within easy access of the elegant boutiques and jewellers of Old Corfu town and the modern shopping centre in the new section of Corfu Town. On arrival to the square, your escort leads you into the heart of the shopping district, giving you tips, advice, directions as to where you could find what you are looking for! Corfu Town offers a large variety of shops, with some great shopping opportunities. Down the cobbled streets and alleyways you can find everything from a small gift and souvenir shop to a boutique with exclusive Italian designer clothes. There are many interesting shops in between, but the best deal can be made on leather goods, jewelry, gold, silver and fur coats. However, if you are going to buy jewelry it is important that you use a reputable jeweler. The best and most popular local buys are gold and silver jewellery, leather goods, fur coats and ceramics, whilst the designers’ clothes at the local fashion boutiques are a bargain. The area around Ionian Sea is famous for its ceramic work and there are plenty of opportunities to see just that on display in the shop windows around town. Naturally, it is also being sold in most of the souvenir shops around town. Probably the most unusual and the most fascinating is the amount of hand-woven carpets, tablecloths, napkins, skirts and blouses of lace and cotton which are available in Corfu town. Heavy white stitched sweaters, which are made on the Aegean Island, are also very popular among tourists. Other typical Greek things to bring home could be the skewers for souvlaki, and also the Greek pastries are very tasty. There are usually bargains to be found if you are willing to negotiate, and the prices tend to fall a little when the tourist season is about to end.

Day 3: Corfu

Free day at leisure or Optional Tour Paleokastritsa, Achilleion Palace, Corfu Town (approximately 8 hours). This excursion offers you a comprehensive view of the island, combining visits to cultural and historical sites with delightful breaks at spots of unique natural beauty. Leaving the port, the coach follows the road leading out of town; soon you are found in the beautiful dense Corfiot countryside, driving through olive groves interspersed with pine and cypress trees, vineyards and fields carpeted with wild flowers and shrubs. Approximately 30 minutes later, you will reach the traditional old village of Gastouri for a visit to the Achilleion Palace, built by the Empress Elisabeth of Austria in 1891 and later owned by Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany. You visit the rooms of the Palace open to visitors, offering a glimpse into the life of the “Sad Empress” as Sissy was commonly known, as well as its beautiful gardens with spectacular views over Corfu Town and the sea. Filled with exotic flowers and adorned with classical statues of Ancient Greek mythological figures, the gardens give evidence of Empress Elisabeth’s fondness of Ancient Greek History and Mythology. From Achilleion Palace, you are driven into Corfu Town for a visit of the historic centre of this elegant old town. Built by the Venetians more than 400 years ago, the Old Town looks more like Napoli or Venice rather than any other Greek town. Constructed between the two Venetian Fortresses, it is a maze of winding narrow cobbled streets “kandounia”, little piazzas (squares) and high tenements in pastel yellow and brick red colours. Leaving the coach by the central “Esplanade Square”, you explore the town on foot accompanied by your guide. You visit the 300-year old church of St. Spyridon, the Saint Protector of the island, with its priceless collection of icons and offerings to the Saint. There is also free time for shopping and wandering around on your own. Leaving Corfu Town, after 40 minutes, your coach reaches one of the most beautiful spots on the island, much celebrated for its unique natural beauty, the bay of Paleokastritsa, known as the “Capri of Greece”. You visit the Byzantine Monastery of the Virgin, still inhabited by a community of monks, and its small museum, housing priceless Byzantine icons and church relics. From the monastery’s gardens you have spectacular views over the beautiful bays of the area with their crystal-clear turquoise waters and rocky promontories. The tour then continues to the picturesque traditional village of Lakones, situated high up the mountain slopes, from where you can enjoy a panoramic vista over the whole bay of Paleokastritsa.

Day 4: Corfu or Paxos

Free day at leisure or Optional Cruise to Paxi - Antipaxos islands. (approximately 8 hours). Paxi island is the smallest of the Eptanissa (the 7 islands) of the Ionian Sea. Being so small that one can easily walk from one end to the other, just 8 miles long by 3 miles across, it is an exquisite microcosm of rich fertile land, abundant in vines and olive trees, resembling a garden in bloom. The island’s capital, the small Venetian-built town of Gaios, is a lively cluster of pastel colored tenements and cobbled-stone narrow serpentine-like streets, on the eastern shores of the island. The picturesque little fishing harbour of Gaios is naturally protected by the isle of Agios Nikolaos, located directly opposite - where the Venetians built the fortifications required to protect their little colony, whose ruins still remain - the sea in between forming a narrow canal only navigable by small boats. A couple of miles to the south of Paxos, lies the even smaller isle of Antipaxos, an uninhabited unspoiled lush green patch of land covered in vines, surrounded by the most amazing crystal clear turquoise waters. As the legend goes, Poseidon, the fearsome God of the Sea (otherwise known as Neptune), wishing to create a peaceful paradise island where he could enjoy life with his beloved, the beautiful Amfitriti, struck the southern part of Corfu with his trident, thus creating the small isle of Paxos. In the process, he lost his trident, which the locals later discovered and turned it into their emblem, in the memory of their creator. Situated approximately one and a half hours by boat from the island of Corfu, Paxos offers its visitors the chance to experience the joys of an earthly paradise as part of a leisurely boat trip; quiet village life, beautiful crystal-clear turquoise waters, a tranquil landscape of wild flowers and olive groves, and a chance to bathe in some of the most amazingly clear crystal waters you have ever seen!
